Boystown isn't just for boys any more. BoysTown (Beaudesert, QLD) BoysTown, Beaudesert (BoysTown) was established in 1961 and run by the De La Salle Brothers until 2001. The institution was established on the principle of providing care and vocational training to boys with behavioural issues. Emphasis was placed on the development of life skills, career planning, a wide variety of recreational pursuits and familiarisation with modern technology. Boys Town was run by the De La Salle Brothers at Beaudesert from 1961 to 2001. "It's certainly not about us not wanting to be part of that but the issues, as they are, are very much part of the De La Salle brothers.

The De La Salle Brothers have been and continue to be committed to do what they can to bring some healing to lives damaged as a result of institutional abuse through the provision of counselling, personal apology and the settlement of claims.The De La Salle Brothers have settled claims for large numbers of those who have come forward either through their own legal representation, through the National Redress Scheme, directly to the De La Salle Brothers as well as through the Catholic Church's Towards Healing scheme.Unfortunately, the De La Salle Brothers were not asked to comment. Other witnesses described the use of certain boys (through the Alderman system) to maintain control through a combination of peer pressure, intimidation and physical assault, and the Friday night 'biffups', or boxing matches, which were perceived as punishment.
