Cownose rays can be found in the Atlantic Ocean along western Africa, the eastern U.S., the Gulf of Mexico and parts of the Caribbean.
The beautiful cownose stingrays are the same species that live in the waters of Tampa Bay and are cared for by the Florida Aquarium staff. Mating takes place in June or July each summer.

A pelagic species, the cownose ray can be found both near the coast and out in the open ocean throughout its range, and may be seen travelling in large aggregations of thousands of individuals.
Cownose rays are opportunistic feeders, eating whatever is available. Although these rays often have a negative stigma and are feared by most people, they are misunderstood creatures that actually are very docile and unaggressive.
