It's a defensive mechanismit's harder to swallow a large fish than a small one. Then one day when I came back from work, 1 goby is dead and the other...well lost half of it's body. Do you keep them by themselves? But really most fish will be pestered and nipped often. If you are looking to start a brackish puffer tank, try it. I agree- Figure 8 puffers thrive the best in slowly increasing brackish conditions.

First off, no matter what anyone says, figure eight and green spotted puffers are high end brackish water fish and will not survive in a frestwater tank. mine are in a species tank that does well somewhere between brackish and freshwater but its closer to brackish than anything.a "freshwater" puffer will not last long in a freshwater tank, maybe a month or two tops. I have heard reports of people keeping figure 8 and GSP in complete freshwater but it usually lowers their life expectancy.

I had a figure 8 puffer in fresh water. puffers have sharp beaks and will bite CHUNKS out of the other fish in your tank. puffers will be aggressive no matter how much space they are given and are known to go after fish many times their size.they do best in species only or special setup tank with plecos catfish and other puffers.
I have to say that bumblebee goby was a tough fish, it was still moving around with only half a body remaining. Pufferfish derive their name from their ability to inflate themselves with water or air when startled.
