In the Buffalo Creek fire, 40 to 50 mph winds drove the fire across 10,000 acres in one day. "Investigators were able to go back to the point of origin, dig through the rubble and find the cigarette," Park County Sheriff Fred Wagener said. "The fire has moved in different directions all day long," Gallamore said at midday, before the fire exploded toward Buffalo Creek.
