We already had this book and had completed most of the recipes but this particular one was bought as a gift for a friend's birthday. Find all the books, read about the author, and more. And pleased we did. Delicious recipes, though quite a lot call for complicated spices or ingredients.
He does make all his recipes interesting and they do work and I would recommend his books to anyone who likes a new and exciting flavour experience. I was expecting it to be further away from what I usually cook with authentic ingredients but it isn't really. No massive complex ingredient lists or unobtainable items for those of us lining in provincial outposts Flavors are mediterranean. "Ottolenghi" is even better than its predecessors and chock-a-block full of great new food.
The photography is stunning, the recipes creative (despite what some will say, the exotic ingredients are often non-essential or last a long time as a little goes a long way) and the writing compelling.
Bought this as a Christmas present - and will be getting one for myself.

Available for the first time in an American edition, this debut cookbook, from bestselling authors Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi of Plenty and Jerusalem, features 140 recipes culled from the popular Ottolenghi restaurants and inspired by the diverse culinary traditions of the Mediterranean. Some of the recipes ask for so many different ingredients but after experimenting a bit I have found that it is possible to manage without certain items occasionally
What I like about this book is that it gives some interesting and creative new ways to cook ordinary vegetables. My main criticism is that many of the recipes require a long list of ingredients that the home cook won't necessarily have on hand and can't easily procure on a weekday at home.

At the same time, I wondered how the newbie could improve and/or expand on the author's two previous (and terrific) books.
Many of the recipes would work as standalone meals, while others are more suitable as side dishes or with 2 or 3 others in a mezze-style meal. Very, very happy with this cookery book.

Special mention goes to the black pepper tofu, burned aubergine with pomegranate, okra sambal, and the sweet potato cakes. I am obsessed with this cookbook.
It's clear, both in the way ingredients are explained and recipemethods.
Yotam Ottolenghi was not a name familiar to me as I don't live in London but heard about him from a 'foodie' friend who raved about him.
It is divided into different sections; roots, onions, mushrooms, squashes, capsicums, brassicas, aubergine, tomatoes, leaves, green things, green beans, pulses, cereals, pasta and fruit with cheese. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 31, 2019

Find all the books, read about the author, and more. His other books are good too but if you want one of his books only this should be it. If you're a meat eater this book will be great, but I'm not, so I prefer Plenty.

Potatoes with horseradish and semolina tart are not what I expected at all= nice but strangely not what I wanted it to be.
This book has an excellent range of recipes, including some of the iconic Ottolenghi bakes. I don't eat meat, so I skip the meat section and it's perfect.
Common ingredients are pine nuts, cilantro, flat-leaf parsley, lemon, cinnamon, many other curious but savory combinations.
