I have found that in some cases the offer of a live crayfish or ghost shrimp can sometimes trigger a feeding response in stubborn predatory fish. they do love squid and krill( not freeze dried). It has 2 teeth, one on top and another on the bottom.
He at least eyeballed the food today.Well this was totally dumb luck but the lights switched off in the qt for the night so I stuck my arm in there to toss the clam in the trash and it swam up on me really quick.
Lets see what happens tomorrow.I would start with live ghost shrimp and treat for internal parasites. Contact us today to start your advertisement!
Got him to sample some frozen squid and brine yesterday but he kept spitting it out. It started eating right away when put into q tank. You must log in or register to reply here. My boyfriend came home with a Spiny Box Puffer for our 125 FOWLR tank. The Spiny Box Puffer is also known as the Web Burrfish. If it is a really small puffer you could also try live brine shrimp just to try and get the puffer eating. So please don't overlook the reason so many of these guys don;t make it, is because of internal parasites. He is in hypo qt for the next 30 days so once that is over and I get the salinity normal I will be treating for that as well if everything goes ok.Got him to sample some frozen squid and brine yesterday but he kept spitting it out.
I have tested my tank and my ammonia is at .25 to .50, nitrate(NO3) is HIGH 80 to 160, PH is 8.0, and my nitrite (NO2) is at .25.
I found frozen jumbo mysis a good starter frozen for finicky puffers.
You can shoot them toward the puffer wit turkey baster.Sorry for the late reply. JavaScript is disabled. Good luck, and TRY GARLIC!
But he eats from my hand when I have time. Just buy raw, uncooked shrimp from the grocery store, thaw it in tank water (maybe with a little garlic) and I drop it in. I have tried Live Fish, Krill, Mysis, and brine, we even tried holding him and placing the fish in his mouth but he just spit it out.
Ill give it another shot tomorrow then try the live stuff. I'm in a bit of a predicament. if he is in a qt and not eating dead food I would treat with general cure in the water column. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. I can only give you examples of how mine is .spiney box fish puffers are like a berameter when something isnt just perfect in its enviroment.ph should be 8.3 if mine drops to 8.1 he stops eating and pouts in a corner.
I have tried Live Fish, Krill, Mysis, and brine, we even tried holding him and placing the fish in his mouth but he just spit it out. Posted by Tom on 10th Nov 2017 I ordered two of these guys. Don't force feed him by shoving fish down his throat, just leave him be for now, as your probably stressing him even moreso. Figure maybe he wants to eat in darkness so I toss 3 jumbo mysis in there (only tried the cubed before) and he starting eating a bit.
It did not eat at the lfs and honestly the only reason I wound up buying it was because it has been a long search as I generally will not buy a fish without seeing it eat. Keep us updated.hes probably stressed and just getting settled in just about all of my fish havent eaten for at least 2 daysI had the same problem with my porcupine puffer when i put him in he didn't want to eat, so i got some damsels and he still didn't eat, so i got some krill and put it on a stick and moved around his face for a while he was scared at the begining but now he he eats from my hand(Not recomended to feed from hand they will bite) but he's probably just stressed out from the move!!!
how big is yours?.if the food is too small he wont bother with it anyways. Just give hime some time and try to make him feel comfortable. With my porc puffer I had to throw in a guppy, after he munched that down he ate EVERYTHING, and i mean EVERYTHING, rocks, sand, heater, powerheads... :notsure: ..just needs something to get him outta the hunger strike. I do not get on here often. Plus its good for them. I just purchased a Spiny Box Puffer a few days ago and he is not eating. Of course it is a puffer so he keeps eating and spitting it out and then eating again but I am counting it as a win for now. SpinyBox puffers are one of the most challenging puffer's to house, and refusing to eat is common. Thay cant resist! The Porcupine Puffer has spiny appendages that cover most of its body.
