Also referred to as the Amber Palace, the fort is located on a hill in Amer, Rajasthan. The views are also spectacular, particularly the elaborate gardens that one sees from up above.

The frescos here have Indian Influence as Ganesha is there, Mughal Influence with those floral motifs and English influence in the choice of colors – pastels primarily. I had no idea bout the ‘Cheelon ka teela’ bit…I’ve been here a few times and will make sure I visit all the recommended places on my next trip Siddhartha – I think Indian destinations have so many layers of history that every time you visit, you peel another layer and discover something new. You would always find a Shakti temple in the fort. The Rajputs then slayed everyone belonging to the clad of Meenas, without showing them any sign of mercy. The images here definitely do not do justice to itI can visit Amer fort multiple times and yet not get enough. !Anokhi Museum is lovely Meenakshi. This is the oldest part of the fort and I assume this may have the version 1 of Diwan-e-aam or the common meeting place.
Colorful lights and vivid sound take you for a history walk.Anokhi Museum dedicated to Rajasthani and other Indian textiles. The present fort was completed in the late 16th century. All I can tell you is that you can potentially get lost here. Nope, I did not visit any temple in Amer, but next time I am there, I will do only temples and nothing else. This place was used by the royal family whenever they felt like they had to rest or spend some quality time alone.

The buildings are situated opposite to each other.

The fort presents a fascinating blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture. Over the next two centuries or so, the fort underwent continuous renovations and improvements under the reign of various Rajput Maharajas including Mirza Raja Jai Singh I. Later successors of Kachwaha kings expanded and improved the fort for 150 years. This part of the palace was extremely secluded as the kings used to visit the queens or their mistresses without getting noticed by anyone. The architectural style of the fort is a blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. The Rajasthan High Court had condemned this act and stopped any further damage by cancelling permission to shoot the movie within the premises of the fort. This one I thought is pretty popular close to Jaipur.Oh, I can’t decide which I love best! Mirza Raja Jai Singh, who ruled the place from 1621 to 1627, was instrumental in building the Ganesh Pol.

Amer fort is perfect example of Rajput Military Hill architecture. The mirrors used in this palace are convex in nature. The Maota Lake at the forefront of the fort gives spectacular and beautiful reflections of the magnificent Amber Fort-Palace.The fort, along with five other forts of Rajasthan, was named as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the year 2013. The Amer Fort that stands just on the outskirts of the Jaipur City is actually the immediate ancestor of Jaipur City. The mirrors used in this palace are convex in nature. The front courtyard of the fort complex is adorned with the splendid, pillared hall of the Diwan-i-Am, and the two-tiered painted gateway, Ganesh Pol. Inside the Ganesh Pol of Amer Fort, on one side is Sheesh mahal. Another angle says it was designed in such a way that the king can visit any queen without anyone else finding out. Don't forget to check out the 'Sheesh Mahal', 'Diwan-i-Aam' and 'Sukh Mahal' also. The palace gate with all the frescos are awesome, I can see why it’s famous on Instagram!Dany, I am surprised as this is one of the most popular tourist sites near Jaipur that is part of India’s golden triangle or the most popular tourist circuit.Lovely post Anuradha…I really enjoy reading the history bit that you bring to your stories – they always add another layer to the context. The fort is originally believed to have been built by Raja Man Singh during 967 CE. The king took them in openheartedly, and even raised the child who was named Dhola Rae. I saw it in Delhi too. The first gate, which is also the main entrance, is called Suraj Pol or Sun Gate. Maharaja Man Singh I, who led Mughal Emperor Akbar's army, commenced its construction in 1592 on the remains of an 11th-century fort. Maybe just a small tip, but include a google map or something would be great as sometimes I have no idea where on the map these beautiful places are. Do visit and tell me what new things you discovered I’ve heard a lot about the Amer Fort but your pictures have really captured the enormity and beauty of it for me. Yes, the wall murals are amazing and I am sure the images do not do justice to the hall of mirrors or Sheesh Mahal – you have to see it to believe it.Amer Fort is really stunning and I love it for all the intricate work inside.

– Maharaja Man Singh l of Amber lost a battle against king Kedar of Pratapaditya in East Bengal. It is said that the massacre took place on the day of Diwali, when the Meenas were conducting a special ritual known as ‘Pitra Trapan.’ Back then, it was customary for the Meenas to set aside all their weapons while performing ‘Pitra Trapan.’ The Rajputs, who were aware of this practice, took advantage of the situation and made Khogong their own. Suhag Mandir above the Ganesh Pol was used by ladies of Royal family to see ceremonies held in Diwan-i-Am through latticed windows. The exit route from this palace leads directly to the town of Amer. Although I find it hard to believe that the King could visit one Queen without others knowing about it. The ones at Delhi have pure Mughal motifs – this one has Indian motifs as well. The fort’s majestic appearance and its geographical advantages make it a special place to visit.
