I’ve never had an afternoon tea and would worry that it would be a bit intimidating!
The food looks awesome (and filling) and good to hear that you only needed to make one decision on your tea. I’ve only been to DC briefly for work but definitely want to do this when I go back!I’m Maggie, a 20-something politico from Washington, DC, who always has one foot off the ground, looking for adventure. The Willard Intercontinental Hotel has been a pillar of DC high-society for decades. Also, if you are ever in Bath, England, be sure to take tea at Sally Lunn’s. Just two blocks from the White House, this is where anyone who is anyone visiting DC spends the night. We're pleased to see you were able to take advantage of our location during your stay and explore the great many things our nation's capital has to offer!Excellent hotel, beautiful lobby and room decoration, wonderful location, 5 minutes walking distance to White House, friendly staff, exceeded our expectation, don't want to miss it when travel to Washington DC.Thank you for your review.
These could be topped with four different housemade spreads, such as lemon curd and Devonshire cream. The pastry tier was a smorgasbord of tastebud pleasers.
But by 1860, he’d accomplished what he set out to do – establish a first-rate hotel and make money. While Mr. Willard’s main goal was to make a profit, he unintentionally also established the perfect location for key historical events. In fairness, the teas were very nice and properly brewed. The Willard’s proximity to the White House makes it an ideal place for unofficial government meetings, or for politicians to escape to when they didn’t want to be found. For example, in 1861 a 34-member Peace Congress met at the Willard as a last-ditch effort to avoid the Civil War. Henry Willard had been invited to Washington in 1847 to try his luck running a hotel that Charles Dickens described simply as “a long row of small houses” built in 1816 at Fourteenth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. I love that it’s so close to the White House, so I’m sure the chances of running into high profile politicians are high. It is worth it for the location and historic aspects. He had some small luck as a proprietor back home but repeating that success in the nation’s capital would be a new ball game. The building is historical, well kept, and beautiful. The Peacock Alley definitely has that grandiose feeling, perfect for an afternoon treat. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my grandma would take me to tea parties.Afternoon tea is nice, have gone a couple of times here in London Having tea at the Willard looks wonderful! I’m totally intrigued by the Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos! Thank you for your review. and the toiletries are yummy!
Opened in 1847 and located one block from the White House, the Willard is as luxurious as it is historic. I wonder who might have shared the view I have.
The Willard Hotel at Christmastime You guys, I’m back!!! The Willard in DC should be added to our list. The way the wait staff recognized the celebrations all at once was a more elegant and unintrusive way to make people feel special than to sing to each table!Critics say the Willard has the best afternoon tea in DC, and now I understand why. I MAY be spending some time in DC later this year and will definitely keep this in mind if I end up there!I’m not much of a tea drinker either but the whole experience is worth having! Looking for the best afternoon tea in DC?
While he was there, men would come up and try to sell things to him. Nothing pleases us more than to learn that a guest had an enjoyable stay with us.

The Willard InterContinental combines American renaissance and luxury —proudly setting the benchmark with two centuries of unrivaled hospitality from its coveted 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue address. Thank you so much! 2019 Nutcracker Tea Co-Chairs: Olga Jaeckel and Hanane Lemlih All tea ticket holders will attend The Nutcracker matinee performance at 1:00PM at the Warner Theatre. A harpist during tea would certainly set the right mood. Here at The Willard we aim to ensure all our guests have a memorable stay with us, thus we're happy to hear you did! Once seated, service was painfully slow. I’m a tea-buff too and have imbibed in some very lovely teas around the world. Room was just right-plenty of room to spread out.
