But narratively it's pretty straight forward and not very plot heavy. These pronouncements act like a wry commentary on the uncertainty many people now feel as citizens in a precarious world despite all the apparent advancements of civilization and culture. It is the Christmas season and Arthur is supposed to be taking his girlfriend Charlotte home to meet his mother. Winter? Looking forward to the next season.Ali Smith wrote this book fast, and I think that is how she intends us to read it, at least at first.
